Why are regular eye examinations important?
Regular eye examinations are essential to monitor eye health. Eye tests can pick up medical problems such as diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure) before they become symptomatic because these conditions can lead to changes in the blood vessels at the back of the eye. Other conditions in which early detection could be crucial are cataracts, age related macular degeneration and glaucoma.
Many changes to eye health take place gradually and often go unnoticed or without obvious symptoms.
We recommend routine eye tests at least every two years for most individuals but yearly eye tests are advisable if you fit into the following categories:
- Aged 15 or under
- Aged 70 or over
- Use VDU or digital devices for long periods of time
- Are diabetic
- Have Glaucoma
- Are aged 40 or over and are the child, sibling or parent of someone diagnosed with Glaucoma
